Course Descriptions:
7th Grade Math) is a standards-focused, student-centered program in which students will approach mathematical concepts in the following ways: directed for basic mathematics principle including examples and practice, guided through a combination of direct instruction and investigatory learning, investigative activities that allow students to explore and discover mathematics concepts through a contextual setting. This course is designed to meet mastery level of Indiana's College and Career Readiness Common Core Standards in the following general categories:
Process Standards For Mathematics:
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics
5. Use the appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Materials:
· Binder
· Paper
· Pencils
· TI-30XA Calculator (4 function calculator)
Optional: Dry Erase Markers, Tissues, Graph Paper, Pens
General Outline (subject to change):
Unit 1: Operations with Rational Numbers
Unit 2: Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities
Unit 3: Rations, Proportional Relationships, Scale Drawings and Percents
Unit 4:Geometry: Angles, COnstructions and Similar Figures
Unit 5: Geometry: Cirlces, Area, Cross Sections, Surface Area and VOlume
Unit 6: Probability
Unit 7: Data and Statistics
Grading:
Two categories for reporting grades will be utilized-Process (Formative; for example: homework, class activities, entrance/exit slips, quizzes etc.) which has a weight of 25% of the overall grade and Product (Summative; for example: Unit Tests, Projects/Presentations etc.) which has a weight of 75% of the overall grade. Students will be given report cards every 9 weeks. . All incomplete grades must be made up by the following midterm or the grade will be changed to failing (F).
The following grade scale is used to convert percentage grades to letter grades:
A+ 99% or higher C 76% - 81%
A 95% - 98% C- 73% - 75%
A- 93% - 94% D+ 70% - 72%
B+ 90% - 92% D 67% - 69%
B 87% - 89% D- 65% - 66%
B- 85% - 86% F 64% or lower
C+ 82% - 84%
If a student has completed all homework assignments during the unit and has successfully completed the additional, assigned learning tasks in the identified areas of weakness, he/she may retake an assessment over those specific learning targets not yet mastered. Students must spend additional time completing activities/assignments in this area of weakness to acquire understanding. IF this is done correctly, more than one retake of the same learning target should not be necessary. Full credit is given for the learning targets which the students demonstrates mastery during this retake by adding the corresponding number of points onto the original assessment. Retakes need to be arranged with the teacher and completed during times that do not interfere with instruction or participation in classroom activities (Ex: Monday Make-up may be utilized, as well as, reward days).
No bonus points or extra credit assignments will be offered or included in the grade. If the student fails to complete and submit assignments as required and to teacher/school expectations, consequences such as teacher detention, teacher docs, etc. will be issued.
Participation & Attendance:
Attendance is critical. Students are expected to give their best effort both in class and at home throughout the year. Each student will maintain one binder in which they are to keep all notes, homework, class exercises, projects, quizzes and tests. Homework, class work, projects, and other assignments are to be completed and turned in on the due date specified. If a student must be absent he/she is responsible for retrieving makeup work from the teacher and/or a responsible classmate. Absent work will be available in a designated location in the classroom. Students have the equivalent of the number of days missed to complete absent work. Students are expected to complete the WORK and MASTERY of the content.
Important and useful class resources:
· Teacher Webpage
Will be updated regularly with class assignments, weekly activities, instructional videos and additional resources.

- Develop a unified understanding of operations with rational numbers
- Extend use of ratios to the recognition and application of proportional relationships.
- Generate equivalent expressions and write and solve linear equations and inequalities
- Solve problems involving scale drawings, geometric constructions, cross-sections, angle measure, and work with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume
- Draw inferences about populations based on samples
- Investigate chance processes with probability mode
